Tunnel Beach

I went to Tunnel Beach for a grand total of three times… because it was just so worth it to show all of my friends when they visited!
yep, it has an actual tunnel!
inside...creepy...
SO legend has it that Tunnel beach is named because it obviously has a tunnel, BUT the tunnel isn’t natural or anything. It was built by some rich guy who wanted his young daughter to have access to this tiny little beach surrounded by huge rock forms. She threw her birthday party there after he had it built for her…and a couple years later she ironically drowned on that beach. Sad story, but an awesome spot to visit :)

The walk down to the tunnel is STEEP, which can only mean that the way back up is pretty much hell. When you get to the tunnel there is this awesome rock that extends out high and above the ocean…perfect for that epic picture! Then you walk down this dark tunnel and enter this little cove with a waterfall on your left and beach on your right. When the tides are high, there’s barely any beach and your forced up against the walls of the rocks. It’s a really awesome spot and I highly recommend seeing it at least once if you plan on visiting Dunedin!
