Hyde Street Keg Party

Hyde Street is an annual party that everyone at the University of Otago is invited to. The reason? No reason. Just another reason for scarfies to drink. Every year all of the houses on Hyde Street have their own theme, and you and your friends can pick whatever you want. This year the list was as follows:

1 Hyde Street - Fairyland
3 Hyde Street - Tribal
4 Hyde Street - Babewatch Beach Party
4a Hyde Street - On the Hyde Seas
5 Hyde Street - Geeks
6 Hyde Street - Zombie apocolypse
7 Hyde Street - 111 emergency
8 Hyde Street - Freshers on hyde
9 Hyde Street - Oktoberfest
10 Hyde Street - Hyde Street High
11 Hyde Street - Housewives and Pool Boys
12 Hyde Street - Denim on Denim / Fresh Prince of Bel Air
13 Hyde Street - Austin Powers
14 Hyde Street - Mexican border wars
15 Hyde Street - Hyde and go sleep
16 Hyde Street - Geordie Shore
17 Hyde Street - Construction Site
20 Hyde Street - Smurfs
21 Hyde Street - Out of Africa
22 Hyde Street - Full Metal
23 Hyde Street - ABC- Anything But Clothes
24 Hyde Street - Hippies on hyde
25 Hyde Street - Zoo
26 Hyde Street - Spartacus
27 Hyde Street - Mile Hyde Club
33 Hyde Street - Wild wild west

519- "the natives"
480 (my flat)- had a lot of mixed groups, 519 (other internationals)- was ALL native, and they looked pretty awesome I must say! Amanda, Leah and I were Indians because Vicente and Mitchell were cowboys… but we still kind of fitted in with the 519 tribal theme haha. The party started at 8 or 9 AM and ended around 5 PM… literally an all day event. The police and Otago Student Association guessed that around 10,000 people would have been on that street throughout the day (this street is probably only 15-20 houses in length… not very long).  No glass was allowed, so you just had to fill up a milk jug to last you the whole day! I dropped mine while walking over there and it split in half, so I was forced to get a bottle and wash it off in some random persons house haha. Hyde street was definitely BY FAR the best party I’ve ever been too. You are literally just walking up and down the street, getting squashed by random strangers, and seeing friends left and right… it was the weirdest party even, meant in the nicest way! It ended up all over the news, not only for it’s size, but because one of the roofs caved in when everyone was standing and jumping on it. I’m sure the landlord wasn’t too happy about that, but then again its there fault for buying a house on hyde street :)

Renaud was taking the theme quite seriously...
Amanda, me, Leah, Elyse and Bryony
