O-WEEK

(Orientation Week)

Before the fall semester beings, the Uni of Otago puts on a bunch of shows and activities for students to participate in. During the day they have tent city with a bunch of local businesses giving away free stuff, and at night they have concerts, a toga party (mainly for freshman), and a comedy show. I ended up going to two of the concerts- one hip hop, and the other Shapeshifter.  O-Week, is just basically orientation, but instead of getting acquainted with the campus, you’re getting acquainted with how much alcohol the students at Otago consume. You’d be surprised at how much of a party town Dunedin is… I though Austin was bad, but nothing can really compare. I ended up getting pretty sick towards the end of it… my bodies way of saying STOP IT! Another bad, and really weird, problem with Otago students is that there are a lot of couch burnings (really! Look it up under the university page on Wikipedia!!). I witnessed a couple on my street, and then I always walked by the aftermath in the morning along the student streets... I find this “problem” quite hilarious.
