The Legendary Yardy

SO for the unfortunate bunch that turned 21 during their time abroad in New Zealand, they weren't forced, but they were highly encouraged to take part in the yardy (mainly males participating). The yardy is literally a yard of beer...the pictures will explain. Most of them took anywhere from 1.5 min to 5 min to finish, and some ended in vomit... not the prettiest thing to witness, but it still was a fun spectacle.

Rugby Games

I ended up going to two rugby games during my stay in Dunedin. The first was the Highlanders (Otago) vs. the Crusaders (Christchurch). It was pretty fun… we won so I guess that’s all that matters, right? The second time I decided to go all out and wear the official fan outfit sponsored by Speight’s beer. We looked damn good, and definitely looked like official scarfies (students at Otago), except we lost that game... Rugby is the big sport in NZ, equivalent to american football (popularity wise).

Speight's / Cadbury Tours

the gang! (Vicente is a pimp :P)
Dunedin has many neat things to go see within the city... First off, there is Speight's Brewery, it's is the only one in the South Island (after the one in Christchurch closed down due to the earthquakes). For the Americans, Speight's Beer is the most popular beer in New Zealand. I went on the tour with AriAnn, Monika, Vicente, Helen, and Adela one random Friday night. We walked through the huge factory and then got an unlimited supply of beer for half an hour at the end of the tour (cider for me of course!).

some type of brewing machine... can't really remember..

AriAnn was SO surprised by the way beer is brewed (or maybe just yawning hehe)
yay for free cider!!!
trained bartenders :)
Cadbury is the official chocolate of NZ, and it is outstanding!! Americans know Cadbury as the chocolate eggs with really rich creme in the middle of it, but in NZ there is a huge variety of Cadbury chocolate. My favorite happens to be Crunchie, a chocolate bar with hokey pokey in the center...yummmm :P We weren't allowed to bring cameras into the factory...lame. They gave us a bunch of samples of chocolate, in my opinion they gave us the crappiest ones... but then at the end we got a little cup of pure chocolate and I was satisfied :)
